The Kubrick Series: An Introduction

THE KUBRICK SERIES:

AN INTRODUCTION

Is there truly anything that can be said about Stanley Kubrick and his work that hasn't already been said? Or perhaps more appropriately, is there anything I can add to the discussion of Kubrick's work that hasn't already been touched on? Probably not, since I'm just a 19-year old wannabe-filmmaker from Sweden who's only made a couple of embarrasing short films in my life. But nevertheless, I want to try to bring my voice to the discussion and pay my respect to one of the most important filmmakers of all time, and one of my personal favorites as well.

The primary reason for doing this series is because I desperately want to attend the Stanley Kubrick Exhibition in London. It's still uncertain as of this writing if I will be able to attend (primarily due to financing the trip to London), but I'm gonna do my damned best at the very least.

But anyways, since the exhibition will cover all of his films, and there are still a couple of Kubrick films I haven't seen yet, I figured I should check them out before I go there. Then the idea came; why not marathon all of his films in chronological order and see his progression as an artist? And then an even better idea came to me; why not review all of them for my blog?

So in the coming weeks, I will watch all of Kubrick's films in preparation for this exhibition and write up reviews for all of them. Some of the films will be rewatches, and some of them will be first-time viewings. I will most certainly do my very best with these reviews, and hopefully you, dear readers, will enjoy them as well. And perhaps to those poor unfortunate souls that have yet to be exposed to Kubrick, I may turn you on to his work and make you experience it first hand (how I envy you).

Above all, this is not meant to be taken as an intellectual dissection of Kubrick's body of work, but rather an appreciation of a filmmaker who has had a tremendous influence on almost every filmmaker that came after him, myself included.

So hopefully this introduction has caught your attention, and it would make me very glad if you would join me on this journey (or odyssey if you will) and explore the work of the one and only Stanley Kubrick. Thank you!
